The Process

Couples who enter into therapy begin with an assessment process that highlights the strengths and areas of growth for the couple. The assessment involves a joint initial session followed by an individual interview with each partner and the completion of an online set of questionnaires. The third session involves providing feedback from the assessment and development of goals.

Sessions are typically designed to strengthen the couple's relationship in three primary areas: friendship, conflict management, and creation of shared meaning. Couples learn to replace negative conflict patterns with positive interactions and to repair past hurts. Interventions designed to increase closeness and intimacy are used to improve friendship, deepen emotional connection, and create changes which enhances the couples shared goals. Relapse prevention is also addressed.

Other areas that often come up within sessions include infidelity, addiction, trauma and neurodiversity.
